Biography

I completed my PhD in nanophotonics in 2006, and in the same year began work with Springer Nature (then Nature Publishing Group) in Tokyo writing and copy editing front half content for Nature Photonics and the Nature China website.

After moving back to the UK in 2008 I worked for IOP Publishing, writing editorials and managing manuscript review for journals including Nanotechnology.

Later I moved into the journalism team at IOP Publishing, working first on their title nanotechweb.org and later Physics World.

I spent two years working with New Scientist as a features editor, primarily in the physical sciences, as well as contributing to their book reviews, podcasts and live events, which I really enjoyed.

Throughout my career I have worked on a freelance basis either part time or full time. In this capacity I have worked for companies and academic institutions across the world, from writing news and feature articles for science magazines and mainstream press, as well as research highlights and press releases for institutions, to editing manuscripts and book chaptors.

I am a member of the Association of British Science Writers, and always keen to hear about new science and technology developments and editorial projects.
